Cam Fowler out 4-6 weeks with sprained knee

Anaheim Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler could be out through the All-Star break with a sprained knee.

The team announced Fowler will miss 4-6 weeks from the time he suffered the injury on Dec. 27 in the first period of Anaheim’s 4-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Fowler has three goals and nine assists in 34 games played this season. He’s a minus-11, but overall the Ducks have been a poor offensive team, ranking last in the NHL with 1.84 goals per-game. Fowler has averaged the most ice-time per-game on Anaheim at 22:38. Last season Fowler had 34 points in 80 games played while averaging 21:09 of ice-time.

Said the Orange County Register on Fowler’s injury:

It is a notable loss for the Ducks. Fowler, 24, has emerged as a leader of the blue line, largely through consistent play and vast improvement on the defensive end.

The Ducks came into this season with Stanley Cup aspirations, but are 15-15-7 with 37 points. They’re just two points out of the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division and two points out of last place in the Western Conference.
