Antoine Roussel ejected for cross-checking Adam McQuaid in the throat (Video)

Antoine Roussel has already been punished by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety this season. Back in November, he was dinged $5,376.34 for sucker-punching Justin Braun of the San Jose Sharks.

That incident will surely be brought up if Stephane Quintal and his crew feel like what Roussel did to Adam McQuaid of the Boston Bruins Tuesday night warrants supplemental discipline.

The Stars forward took exception to McQuaid taking a run at him close the boards, nearly colliding knee-on-knee. In response, Roussel laid a cross-check to the upper chest/throat area of the Bruins defenseman:

For this, Roussel was handed a five-minute major for cross-checking and a game misconduct. McQuaid was back in the game after a brief trip to the dressing room.

The Stars would actually scoring a shorthanded goal on the ensuing Boston power play and win the game 5-3.

You have to be in control of your stick at all times in the NHL, and this by Roussel was dangerous and could have caused a serious injury if he got a clean shot on McQuaid. The DoPS is probably already looking at available hearing times for Thursday.

UPDATE: Roussel will have a hearing with the DoPS on Thursday.
