Andrei Markov scores epically bad own-goal in Game 1 vs. Ottawa (Video)

One of the big questions about the Ottawa Senators entering their series against the Montreal Canadiens was how they’d put the puck past all-world goalie Carey Price.

Turns out they just had to wait for one of his teammates to do it for them.

Defenseman Andrei Markov had an all-time goof on Wednesday night, as he beat his own goalie five-hole while standing in his crease.

Milan Michalek dumped the puck into the Montreal zone at Bell Centre. It was chased to the end boards by Mika Zibanejad and P.K. Subban. It took a tricky bounce back towards Price’s crease, and actually passed through the forechecking Senator.

Markov then … just puts the puck behind his own goalie. Maybe he was trying to corral it or clear it. Maybe he was trying some weird Red Amry voodoo and passing it off his own goalie’s pads.

Or maybe he’s an Ottawa sleeper agent.

Nah, Melnyk couldn’t afford his quote.

Whatever the case, the goal was credited to Michalek and gave Ottawa the first goal of the series at 12:25 of the first period. It also gave the Senators something the Habs should be otherwise draining from them in Game 1 – even more confidence.
