Alex Galchenyuk ruled out for first round of playoffs due to injury

According to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, the Montreal Canadiens will be without the services of 20-going-on-12 years-old forward Alex Galchenyuk for the first round of the playoffs.

Galchenyuk sustained a lower-body injury Wednesday night against the Chicago Blackhawks as he fell awkwardly against the boards. Knees aren't supposed to bend like that.

What does this mean for the Canadiens? Eyes on the Prize comments on the loss of Galchenyuk and the impact it will have on Montreal:

With the Habs lacking a bit in terms of scoring depth this injury could be a serious blow particularly on a power play that is now 0 for it's last 19 with the man advantage. Even with Brandon Prust and Lars Eller likely returning soon the Canadiens may call someone up from Hamilton as an insurance policy for the series.

The Habs lost to the New York Islanders Thursday night, 2-0.
