Ales Hemsky scores twice vs. Senators, gets traded to them a day later
Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray got a good view Tuesday night of just what Ales Hemsky can bring to a team as he scored twice in a 3-2 win for the Edmonton Oilers.
That showcase was enough for Murray to pull the trigger as the Senators acquired the 30-year old forward in exchange for a fifth round pick in 2014 and a third rounder in 2015.
According to Pierre LeBrun, the Oilers will retain half of Hemsky's remaining salary this season.
Hemsky has 26 points in 55 games this season and is a UFA this summer. It's nice to see the Oilers finally deal him away after years and years of his name being out there on the trade block.
The Oilers had to deal Hemsky and get something for him. The salary Edmonton will retain is minimal with only a month left in the season. Ottawa gets a top-6 forward to help them make a run to a playoff spot. No big loser here.
