Alaska Aces' pink nightmare, other ghastly Valentine's Day jerseys

Puck Daddy's own Justin Bourne played for the ECHL's Alaska Aces in 2006-07, and passed along his former team's new Valentine's Day 2011 jerseys, which debuted on this Facebook page and will be worn on Saturday night, Feb. 12, against the Stockton Thunder.

So we asked him: If you were handed this sweater on a game day, what would your reaction have been?

"I don't know I could take the game seriously, let alone myself or my team," he said. "It would make a mockery of my whole career."

That positive, huh? From Junkyard Athletic, on their hockey gear ode to romance:

The Alaska Aces Professional Hockey Club of the East Coast Hockey League will be wearing this specially designed Junkyard Athletic jersey this Sunday night, Feb. 13th versus the Stockton Thunder. The jersey, designed by our main dood Justin, was designed with a classic Valentine's Day greeting card look in mind. We made an embroidered Aces logo, as well as custom SubliTWILL name plates and numbers to keep the feel of a traditional jersey by sewing these items onto the jersey.

Some additional info from Marcelo Cordoba of Junkyard Athletic:

Fans fail to realize that the teams approve the designs for their "themed" jerseys; either they create designs and send them to us, or, we design and they approve. At the end of the day, they auction the jerseys off for charities in their area and that in itself is the best part of a themed jerseys program.

Somehow, this jersey ends up being way too much and yet not enough. Stripes, hearts, more hearts, hearts on top of those hearts ... too much. Yet if you're going to go to that extreme, why not alter the logo into, say, a snarling bear dressed as cupid?

So, with that, we ask:

Pass or Fail: The ECHL Alaska Aces' Valentine's Day 2011 jerseys.

Ah, but the Aces are far from the only team to have dabbled in the pink around Feb. 14.

Witness ...

According to Hockey Blog in Canada, this was the Bakersfield Condors V-Day jersey from 2010:

The ECHL's Bakersfield Condors broke out the candy hearts and red and pink colours for their 2010 Valentine's Day jersey. The words on the candy hearts actually said familiar hockey phrases like "Go To The Net" and "He Shoots He Scores". Perhaps the funniest part are the checkboxes for "single" and "taken". At least Bakersfield knows how to have fun with these jerseys. I'll give this one a thumbs-up due to the great work they did and the fun they had with the jersey. Well done, Condors!

Well, it certainly is ... thorough.

Finally ... wow. This is from the Southern Professional Hockey League's Huntsville Havoc and ... wow. From the auction:

The Havoc are a minor professional "A" team competing in the Southern Professional Hockey League. This jersey is tagged as a size 54 and measures out to 27" from arm pit to arm pit. As you can see this is a Valentine's Day themed jersey and is a definite rarity! The Huntsville "H" logo patch is on the shoulders as well as the Intergraph sponsor patch just below the neckline. This is an excellent looking jersey and is an authentic on ice jersey, just like the ones the Havoc use in competition. Since this is an authentic jersey, the fight strap is sewn inside the jersey and double fabric is sewn in the elbows and shoulder areas.

Looking back through the years ... yeah, the Aces' jersey is still mind-blowingly bad.
