AHL player denies empty-net goal with diving stick stop (Video)

Bud Holloway leads the AHL’s St. John Ice Caps in scoring with 44 points, but on Saturday he showed a bit of defensive awareness against the Binghamton Senators.

With the Ice Caps trailing 3-1 in the third period and goaltender Eddie Pasquale pulled for the extra attacker, Senators defenseman Mike Kostka had a chance to increase their lead after taking a pass at the St. John’s blue line. He fired a shot, but Holloway made a diving stop with his stick that would make any goaltender proud.

Binghamton would eventually get their empty-net goal not long after Holloway’s stop en route to a 4-1 victory.

As far as save of the year candidates goes, this one surely has to be included in the conversation when the time comes to crown the best stops of 2016.
