Richie Incognito out to prove he's worthy of second chance with Bills

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Richie Incognito.

The 32-year-old guard has not seen the field since he was indefinitely suspended and eventually released by the Miami Dolphins after he was accused of relentlessly bullying former teammate Jonathan Martin over the course of a few seasons. The NFL investigated the situation, leading to the release of the Wells Report, which unveiled all the little locker room details to the world.

With that behind him, Incognito was given a second chance when the Buffalo Bills signed him in February to bolster the team’s line. In an interview with NFL Network, Incognito expressed his gratitude to the Bills and head coach Rex Ryan for giving him the opportunity to revive his career.

“They’re going to get every ounce of effort I have,” Incognito said. “On and off the field: a complete commitment to football and making the guys around me better. I just owe them everything I have.”

Ryan knows Incognito’s capabilities from his days coaching the New York Jets and says he is worthy of a chance to overcome his past mistakes.

“He’s going to have an opportunity to change his legacy and I think that’s important,” Ryan said. “And obviously I want to see him do that.”

Incognito said his year away was “difficult,” but it gave him a greater appreciation for the game.

Incognito last played in Week 9 of the 2013 season. He has plenty of experience with 103 total starts for the St. Louis Rams, Bills (where he played in 2009) and Dolphins.

“I've been around the block and I've definitely had my run-ins, and I've definitely had my time in the media, but I'm just looking forward. I'm excited about the opportunity. I'm excited about getting back to work," he said.
