Report: Chiefs CB Sean Smith suspended three games after DUI plea

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Sean Smith will be suspended for the first three games of the 2015 season following his April guilty plea in a DUI case.

The typical suspension for this type of offense is two games.

The Chiefs' early schedule is brutal — they face the Houston Texans (road), Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers (road) in Weeks 1-3 — but they might have ample depth to sustain this blow.

Smith clearly is the Chiefs' best cover man, but the team drafted Marcus Peters in Round 1 and Steven Nelson in Round 3, has Jamell Fleming (who played well down the stretch) and 2014 third-round pick Phillip Gaines in tow and has depth in the rest of the secondary.

Smith should be able to return and aid the Chiefs' secondary, and he'll have a lot on the line. Not only could the Chiefs be among the AFC's stronger contenders, but Smith is one of several key free agents on the team in 2016, including Eric Berry, Derrick Johnson, Tamba Hali, and Jeff Allen.
