Justin Smith, Marcus Trufant headline 49ers, Seahawks inactive lists

The San Francisco 49ers will be without All-Pro defensive tackle Justin Smith for Sunday night's big NFC West showdown with the Seattle Seahawks. Smith injured his left elbow in the third quarter of last Sunday night's 41-34 win over the New England Patriots and was initially listed as "doubtful" on the injury report before the team corrected to report to list Smith as "questionable".

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that Smith is expected to miss the final two games of the regular season and the 49ers are "hoping" to have Smith back for the postseason. In light of that report, it will be interesting to see if the NFL investigates any injury report shenanigans by the 49ers for listing Smith as "questionable", which means a player has a 50 percent of chance of playing, when they're not 100 percent sure that he'll even be able to play next month.

Smith had started 185 consecutive games, a streak that will end on Sunday night.

For the Seahawks, cornerbacks Marcus Trufant and Walter Thurmond are both inactive due to hamstring injuries that had them listed as "questionable" on the injury report. The Seahawks also listed guard John Moffitt among the inactive players, a surprising scratch that will lead to J.R. Sweezy starting at right guard.
