Former NFL linebacker Tim Shaw and his battle with ALS

In August, former NFL linebacker Tim Shaw announced that he had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS.

That's when he started to fight.

In the video above, Shaw outlines finding out about the diagnosis and the battle against the disease. ALS is a "progressive disease that attacks the nerve cells that control voluntary movement." There's no known cure.

Shaw played with four NFL teams, and his longest stint came with the Tennessee Titans. His optimism and attitude as he fights for his life is an inspiration.
