Make the day after the Super Bowl a national holiday? Yes we can!

The Monday after the Super Bowl stinks. The realization that there won't be a meaningful football game played for another seven months sinks in. And then there's the obvious factor of feeling the effects at work of too much to eat and drink the night before, if you even make it to work that day.

It only makes sense to make the Monday after the Super Bowl a holiday. In fact, there's a petition started by football fans on the White House's site aiming to do just that.

Started by 4for4.com, a fantasy football site, in an obvious quest for publicity (which worked, obviously), the petition asks the administration of President Barack Obama to make the Monday after the Super Bowl a holiday. The petition's goal is to get 100,000 signatures.

Now here's a political movement we should all be able to get behind.

The petition had less than 100 signatures by noon Eastern time on Thursday, so there's a long way to go to reach the goal. And, really, there's no chance of this ever coming to pass even if there's a million signatures. It's not like someone doesn't try something like this every year to get attention. But it doesn't mean it's not a beautiful idea.

And if by some miracle this does work, we can then start working on getting the first week of the NCAA Tournament off.
