Coaches Heat Index – Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano appears to be losing control

We know at the end of the year, some coaches will be fired. Last year, eight coaches were fired after the season. Our job through the season will be to figure out which ones are on the hottest seat every week.

Sure, it would be easy to pick on Jets coach Rex Ryan every week, but there are other guys in his fraternity facing do-or-die seasons. Once you get past the obvious suspects, certain coaches will emerge out of the blue and be on the chopping block despite having a winning record – just ask Lovie Smith.

Every Tuesday we'll look at which coaches are in danger, and here are the coaches to keep an eye on after Week 2:

THIS WEEK'S THREE HOTTEST SEATS

1. Ron Rivera, Carolina
Sure, the Panthers are losing close games, but the point is they still keep losing. Carolina allowed Buffalo rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel to drive 80-yards with less than two minutes remaining and no timeouts to pull off a 24-23 victory this past Sunday. That is unacceptable.

2. Jason Garrett, Dallas
Bill Callahan, Tony Romo and Garrett were supposed to produce a potent offense this season. Instead, Dallas’ offense is ranked 24th, and there is no commitment to the run game. Garrett continues to look like the odd man out.

3. Greg Schiano, Tampa Bay
He potentially could take over the No.1 spot at this rate. Schiano has lost seven of his past eight games dating back to last season; his team has collapsed in two losses this year; players allegedly do not like him, and the coach recently threw quarterback Josh Freeman under the bus. Schiano might be back in college soon.

GETTING WARMER

Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh
The Steelers dropped another game last night, but nobody is really surprised. Pittsburgh’s offense is nonexistent, and it does not appear things will get better anytime soon.

GETTING COLDER

Rex Ryan, New York Jets
Ryan is off the hottest seat only because New York’s defense has played well through two games. That does not mean his job is safe, but Ryan has a competitive team that has a chance to get better this season, unlike Jacksonville.
