Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith’s team is off to a 2-7 start, but he still has job security.

For now.

Seattle defeated Atlanta, 33-10, on Sunday, and the Falcons drop their third consecutive game and currently own a 2-7 record. Atlanta advanced to the NFC Championship Game last season, but will likely miss the playoffs this year.

Despite Smith’s struggles, Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said Smith’s job was secure after Atlanta’s latest loss.

"Mike Smith is a hell of a football coach; he's the leader of this team," Dimitroff told ESPN.com. "Mike's going nowhere."

Of course, that is easy for Dimitroff to say now.

CBSSports.com reporter Jason La Canfora said if Jon Gruden returned to coaching, his possible landing sports could be Atlanta or Oakland. If Atlanta continues to lose, the Falcons may reconsider.

"Any time there's insinuation toward an organization that we believe in, it's agitating, sure," Dimitroff told ESPN.com.

Smith is safe.

For now.
