Andre Johnson doesn't hold out, reports to Texans training camp

Andre Johnson might not be happy, but a holdout wasn't going to help that.

Johnson, the typically quiet and great Houston Texans receiver, expressed this offseason that his career was getting closer to its end and he didn't want to be involved in another rebuilding project. When a 2-14 team comes back with Ryan Fitzpatrick as its quarterback, a rebuilding season is exactly what is in store for the Texans.

Johnson, who turned 33 earlier this month, stayed away from the team's voluntary offseason activities, and from the mandatory minicamp too. Nobody seemed sure if Johnson would hold out of training camp as well. But when training camp started Friday, Johnson reported on time according to the Houston media, including the Houston Chronicle.

There wasn't an easy solution to this situation. Johnson's contract made him nearly untradeable, even if the Texans wanted to move him. The Texans weren't going to cut a player who had 109 catches for 1,407 yards and is headed to the Hall of Fame someday. The only way this was going to end was Johnson playing for the Texans (or retiring, but that never seemed like an option), and probably being involved in plenty of losses again. So he reported.

Johnson has three years left on his contract. Perhaps when that expires, he'll have enough left to contribute to a contender, or maybe Houston will be a contender again with J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney leading the way. For now, Johnson has to make the best of it and hope the Texans surprise everyone this season.
