Aaron Rodgers headlines Week 7′s opening practice participation reports

NFL teams returned to practice on Wednesday. Here's a deeper look inside the practice participation reports that were filed with the league office:

First up, the Seattle Seahawks will have Pro Bowl safety Kam Chancellor, who is listed as "probable" for Thursday night's game against the San Francisco 49ers with an ankle injury that limited him in practice this week. Seahawks right guard John Moffitt will miss a third straight game with a knee injury. The 49ers could be without left tackle Joe Staley, who has to pass the league's concussion protocol before being cleared to play. Staley is officially listed as "questionable", as are wide receiver Mario Manningham (shoulder) and running back Brandon Jacobs (knee).

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was limited in Wednesday's practice by a calf injury, but said "nothing's going to keep me out" of Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams. Four Packers did not practice on Wednesday — nose tackle B.J. Raji, linebacker Nick Perry, cornerback Sam Shields and and wide receiver Greg Jennings — with Perry and Shields not expected to be ready for Sunday. Determinations on Raji and Jennings will be made later in the week.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb did not practice and is out indefinitely after have three ribs detach from his sternum and spraining his SC joint. That means John Skelton will take the reins of the Cardinals offense for the foreseeable future. Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett (hamstring) was limited on Wednesday. Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson sat out Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury, but his lack of participation is considered precautionary and he's expected to be fine for Sunday, head coach Leslie Frazier said via the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker (left shoulder) returned to practice on Wednesday, but is not expected to return to the starting lineup until Oct. 28 against the Indianapolis Colts. Titans middle linebacker Colin McCarthy did not practice due to an ankle injury, but head coach Mike Munchak expects him to play, Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean reports.

Five Buffalo Bills did not practice on Wednesday, including rookie left tackle Cordy Glenn, who will likely miss a third straight game with an ankle injury, reports Tim Graham of The Buffalo News reports. Defensive tackle Kyle Williams (ankle) and defensive end Mark Anderson (knee) did not practice, either, but Shawne Merriman says he's ready to go and will likely be active against the Titans.

Carolina Panthers middle linebacker Jon Beason missed Wednesday's practice with a knee injury that kept him out of the team's Week 5 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The good news for the Panthers is that wide receiver David Gettis practiced for the first time after opening the season on the physically unable to perform list, though he's not expected to be added to the active roster this week.

Haloti Ngata (knee) was one of three Baltimore Ravens defensive starters to miss Wednesday's practice. The Pro Bowl defensive tackle was joined on the sidelines by nose tackle Ma'ake Kemoeatu and cornerback Jimmy Smith. Safety Ed Reed is not on the practice report, but helpfully disclosed that he's playing with a torn labrum in his shoulder. Linebacker Terrell Suggs (Achilles) hit the practice field for the first time after being activated from the PUP list this week.

Seven Indianapolis Colts missed Wednesday's practice with running back Donald Brown (knee), linebacker Robert Mathis (knee) and defensive end Cory Redding (knee) the most notable name son the list. Redding is expected to miss several weeks, prompting the club to sign Lawrence Guy off the Green Bay Packers' practice squad. By doing so, Guy is guaranteed three weeks' worth of game checks, which comes to $68,824 regardless of whether or not he remains on the 53-man roster.

The Washington Redskins have already ruled safety Brandon Meriweather (knee) out for Sunday's game against the New York Giants. Wide receiver Pierre Garcon has an "inflamed capsule on the second toe" of his right foot that will keep him out until he's fully healed, which is unlikely to happen this week. Seven Giants weren't practicing on Wednesday, including running back Ahmad Bradshaw due to a foot injury. Bradshaw has 316 yards and two touchdowns over his last two games and is expected to return to practice on Thursday.

The New Orleans Saints were without tight end Jimmy Graham (ankle) on Wednesday, but did have linebacker Jonathan Vilma (knee) on the practice field. Vilma could play if the club adds him from the PUP list to the 53-man roster before Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who listed only one player — former Saints guard Carl Nicks (foot, limited participation) — on the injury report.

Seven New York Jets missed practice, including center Nick Mangold (ankle) and nose tackle Sione Po'uha (back). Mangold is expected to play on Sunday, while Po'uha could miss a third straight game. The Patriots listed 11 players as "limited", including starting safeties Patrick Chung (shoulder) and Steve Gregory (hip) and tight ends Rob Gronkowski (hip) and Aaron Hernandez (ankle). Not on New England's report was wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, who appeared to suffer a left shoulder injury in the Patriots' final possession of their 24-23 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.

Safety Troy Polamalu (calf) and offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle) were among seven Pittsburgh Steelers to not practice on Wednesday. Polamalu will miss a fourth game of the season, while Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Gilbert could miss up to two months.

Four Jacksonville Jaguars missed Wednesday's practice, including wide receiver Laurent Robinson (concussion) and safety Dwight Lowery (ankle). Lowery will miss Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders, with Chris Prosinski replacing him in the starting lineup. Robinson has yet to pass the league's concussion protocol and is unlikely to do so this week. The Raiders were without right tackle Khalif Barnes (groin) and cornerback Shawntae Spencer (foot) on Wednesday, but linebacker Aaron Curry returned to practice after spending six weeks on PUP with a knee injury.
