Wake Forest’s leading wide receiver Jared Crump will miss the 2015 season after tearing his ACL during practice last week.

Coach Dave Clawson announced the news Saturday after an MRI revealed the damage. Crump will need surgery.

Crump, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound junior, had 32 catches for 339 yards and a touchdown last season.

In the spring, Clawson called the receiving corps one the Demon Deacons most improved areas. Even with the losses of E.J. Scott and Matt James, the team’s top two wide receivers, tight end Cam Serigne, who had 54 catches for 531 yards and five touchdowns, returns and players such as Jonathan Williams, Cortez Lewis and Jabari Hines have impressed. During Saturday’s scrimmage, freshman Steven Claude had five catches for 92 yards in Crump’s stead.

Wake Forest opens the season Sept. 3 against Elon. The Demon Deacons went 3-9 a year ago.
