Vandy coach James Franklin is looking for a few attractive wives *UPDATED*

So you're thinking of joining the Vanderbilt football staff. You have a great resume, experience and talent. But getting a job on James Franklin's staff isn't about any of those things, it's about how attractive your wife is.

Franklin unabashedly said so during a radio interview Wednesday where he claimed that one of the first things he does when looking at perspective hires is size up their wives.

Yeah, creepy.

"I've been saying it for a long time, I will not hire an assistant coach until I've seen his wife. If she looks the part, and she's a D-I recruit (one of the nation's best-of-the-best), then you got a chance to get hired. That's part of the deal."

So where did Franklin acquire all the Manswers? Well, from the movie "Moneyball" in which a scout quips: "Ugly girlfriend means no confidence."

And Franklin thinks there's something to that:

"There's a very strong correlation between having confidence going up and talking to women, and being quick on your feet and having some personality and confidence and being fun and articulate, than it is walking into a high school and recruiting a kid and selling him."

On Thursday, Franklin responded to his comments on Twitter with more embarrassment than apology:

Franklin isn't the first coach to lay out criteria for his coaching staff. In January, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said he didn't want fat, sloppy, smoking bachelors gracing his coaches room. But it's got to be awkward for a prospective assistant to present his wife to Franklin as eye candy before he can be considered for a position that may or may not include fetching coffee.

So take heed prospective Vandy applicants, if your wife looks like she belongs on the cover of Martha Stewart Living instead of Maxim, find another place to apply.
