Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville smacks hat and headset off assistant coach in a fit of anger (VIDEO)

Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville wasn't happy that his team took a penalty on fourth and 2, so he hit one of his assistant coaches, knocking his hat and headset off.

It's very rare to see any physical contact between coaches on a sideline, so the reaction to this incident should be interesting, and it probably won't be pretty for Tuberville.

Nick Kosmider of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal tweeted about the incident right after it happened:

The Avalanche-Journal later identified the assistant as offensive graduate assistant Kevin Oliver.

Needless to say, no matter what kind of mistake is made by an assistant or no matter how upset the head coach is, that kind of physical contact and humiliation is not acceptable. And Texas Tech can't be happy to be dealing with another potential controversy with a coach, after former football coach Mike Leach and former basketball coach Billy Gillispie got headlines for accusations of in appropriate behavior.

We'll have to see what Tuberville's explanation is for this after the game. For a coach that has been mentioned as a possibility for other openings this offseason, such as Kentucky, Tuberville will have a tough time giving a good reason for snapping like this.

UPDATE: Here was Tuberville's answer in his press conference after the game. We'll let you be the judge:

"He was on the field, I reached to grab him and pull him off, and when I pulled I missed his shirt and I grabbed his facemask — or his microphone — and it just ripped off his head," Tuberville said. "I was trying to get him off the field."
