Texas reinstates Case McCoy and Jordan Hicks after violation of team rules

Texas quarterback Case McCoy and linebacker Jordan Hicks have been reinstated to the team less than three weeks after they were sent home for violating team rules while the Longhorns were preparing for the Alamo Bowl.

The Associated Press reported that the two players had missed curfew, but several other outlets reported that McCoy and Hicks were involved in an alleged sexual assault in San Antonio.

Police said last week that both players remained under investigation, but Hicks’ attorney, Perry Minton, said in a statement he was confident neither player would be charged.

According to the San Antonio Express-News, a 21-year-old woman told police she met the two men at a nighclub and after several drinks, she invited two players up to her hotel room on Dec. 28. She had sex with one of the men while the other watched. She said she didn’t remember the entire incident, but police noted that she had bruises on her knees and bicep.

Minton did not deny his client was there, but did say his client “vehemently asserts that all conduct that occurred during the evening of the incident was consensual by everyone involved. The allegation, if any, that a sexual assault occurred by anyone at any time is completely false.”

McCoy was the backup quarterback last season and played in spot time behind David Ash. He finished with 772 yards and six touchdowns.

Hicks played just three games before suffering a hip injury that caused him to miss eight games.

While the players have been reinstated, coach Mack Brown did not say where they would be on the depth chart come spring football.
