Texas A&M goes winless against the state of Mississippi

Texas A&M is in uncharted territory.

Only one other time during coach Kevin Sumlin’s tenure has Texas A&M lost back-to-back games, but the Aggies are officially on a losing streak thanks to the state of Mississippi.

Saturday’s 35-20 loss to Ole Miss meant the Aggies had been outscored 83-51 in its last two games against the Rebels and Mississippi State. It’s been a shocking turn of events because prior to these losses, many were expecting the Aggies to compete for the SEC West title, especially after they started so strong against South Carolina. However, with two losses and Mississippi State and Ole Miss surging, it would be tough for A&M to get back into the race.

And really, it only has itself to blame.

Quarterback Kenny Hill had two interceptions, including a pick-six, on Saturday and also had a fumble that led to a score. The turnover problems started creeping up last week when Hill threw three interceptions.

Take out the turnovers against Ole Miss and it’s a different story. Texas A&M had more total yards and a longer time of possession. But it also had more penalties and Ole Miss never lost the ball.

Now the Aggies head to Tuscaloosa to take on an Alabama team that’s had its own issues of late. This is actually a game Texas A&M could steal if it could just secure the ball. Alabama’s defense is playing well, but the rest of its team has been suspect.

If A&M can’t get out of its own way again, the Aggies will embark on their first three-game losing streak in Sumlin time in College Station, which is something no one expected when the season began with so much promise.
