Teammates surprise Mitchell Meyers after final chemo treatment (Video)

Iowa State defensive lineman Mitchell Meyers had his final chemotherapy treatment Friday after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma back in January.

To signify the end of this part of the recovery process, Meyers got to “ring the bell” at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. To make it even better for Meyers, dozens of his teammates were there to surprise him as he walked out into the waiting area.

Cyclones head coach Paul Rhoads said earlier this week that Meyers hadn’t missed a single team workout since his diagnosis. Now that he’s finished with chemo, Rhoads said Meyers still has to undergo radiation before his planned return to the team in September.

"From here, Mitchell will come back to his hometown in Houston and undergo radiation before joining us in the month of September," Rhoads said. "Prayers still extended for Mitchell and his family and everything that he’s going through, and our football team watches in admiration and appreciation each and every single day.”

Meyers started all 12 games for the Cyclones last season as a redshirt sophomore. He tallied 30 total tackles on the season.
