Syracuse blog aiming to send 200 underprivileged kids to the Texas Bowl

Traveling to see your 6-6 team play in Houston for a bowl game isn't the most enticing of options. That 6-6 team is Syracuse, and that bowl in Houston is the Texas Bowl. So no, it's not the closest of trips either.

So SB Nation's Syracuse blog Troy Nunes is an Absolute Magician had an idea. Why not try to raise enough money so that 200 kids from the 3rd Ward Houston Texans YMCA could go?

The blog has followed through on similar ideas before, both for Syracuse home games. And when just about 10 percent of responders' to its bowl game attendance poll said that they were going to make the trek to the game, it decided to go for it in Houston.

The Texans YMCA is located near the stadium and the seating area for the kids is next to the Syracuse marching band. A ticket and shirt for each kid is $60 and fundraising efforts are going really well. Since launching the post Monday, TNIAAM is already almost a third of the way to its goal.

It's a great idea, and if you're a Syracuse fan or an alum, we can think of an infinite number of worse ways to spend your money. The Orange takes on Minnesota on Friday, Dec. 27.

UPDATE: The tickets are now only $20 apiece. So that's a lot more kids to help.
