A likely starter for Stanford at wide receiver has been suspended indefinitely.

Per the San Jose Mercury News, Cardinal head coach David Shaw said Saturday after practice that Michael Rector is suspended for disciplinary reasons.

Rector, a 6-foot-1, 189-pound redshirt junior, was fourth on the team with 24 catches for 324 yards and two touchdowns in 2014. He also registered 14 receptions for 431 yards and three scores as a redshirt freshman in 2013.

With Rector out, the Stanford offense will have to rely heavily on Devon Cajuste (34 catches, 557 yards, 6 TDs) and tight end Austin Hooper (40 catches, 499 yards, 2 TDs). Francis Owusu, a 6-foot-3, 212-pound junior, is a likely candidate to move in to Rector’s spot in the starting lineup. He caught 11 passes for 138 yards in 2014.

Shaw did not give a timetable for Rector’s return to the team.

Stanford's season begins on Sept. 5 at Northwestern.
