Stanford turns fake fumble trick play in a 31-yard TD (Video)

Stanford opened Friday's Rose Bowl game against Iowa with a 75-yard touchdown pass on the first play from scrimmage and didn’t take its foot off the gas pedal.

It even got a little creative in the second quarter by using a play perhaps no one has ever seen executed in a collegiate game.

Stanford quarterback Kevin Hogan pretended to fumble the ball — and running back Christian McCaffrey helped sell it — which froze the defense and allowed Hogan to find receiver Michael Rector for a 31-yard touchdown.

The score gave Stanford an unexpected 35-0 lead, the largest deficit Iowa faced all season. In fact, Iowa allowed just one opponent to score 35 points on it this season.
