Seven NC State players suspended following BB gun incident

Seven NC State players suspended following BB gun incident

Seven North Carolina State players will miss Saturday’s game against Louisville after being involved in an incident with BB guns at their off-campus residence last week.

Among the suspended players are linebacker Jerod Fernandez and safety Josh Jones, who both started the 30-14 loss to Boston College last Saturday. Receivers Johnathan Alston and Jumichael Ramos, defensive linemen Justin Jones and Pharoah McKever and cornerback Mike Stevens also were suspended.

"These are good young men who made a mistake in not recognizing that this activity could've resulted in someone being injured," NC State head coach Dave Doeren said. "We've discussed this with them and they understand they're being held responsible for their actions."

Also, redshirting players Tyler Jones, Kalen McCain, Deyshawn Middleton, Terronne Prescod and Maurice Trowell have been placed on team probation.

This is the third school that’s had a reported BB gun incident this season. Kentucky suspended four players for firing BB guns on campus and East Carolina had three players suspended for a similar offense.

Details of the incident have been passed on to NC State’s Office of Student Conduct and the players could be hit with further punishment.
