Oklahoma officially has its own TV programming deal. Who’s next?

If you've ever yearned to watch "Josh Heupel's Greatest Screen Passes" or relive Oklahoma's thrilling 28-24 win over Baylor from 1996, you are now in luck.

Oklahoma made it official: Sooner Sports TV, in a partnership with Fox Sports, was announced. The station promises 1,000 hours of programming every year, including reruns of Oklahoma football games shown on Fox. The announcement says that programming will be shown on Fox Sports networks, reaching about nine million homes, and select programming will go national on the Fox College Sports network.

When Texas' Longhorn Network was launched, it was inevitable that other schools tried to follow suit, especially Oklahoma. The Sooners don't want to get caught short in that rivalry, especially with recruits who are probably impressed when Texas tells them it has its own network. While Sooner Sports TV isn't a dedicated network, it accomplishes some of the same things. Other schools will undoubtedly take notice of this deal and wonder why they don't have something similar.

Hopefully Oklahoma's deal won't launch a new round of debates about whether it's OK to broadcast high school games under the Sooner Sports TV flag, opposing teams wanting no part of having their games moved to OU's platform or updates on distribution.

But, that seems inevitable too.
