Michigan WR Maurice Ways has surgery to repair broken foot

Michigan receiver Maurice Ways had surgery Tuesday to repair what coach Jim Harbaugh called an injury to the fifth metacarpal.

"Moe caught a touchdown pass (in an earlier practice), and a freak thing happened. (He) fell on his foot and looks like he’s going to need a surgery for the fifth metacarpal in his foot," Harbaugh told reporters at Ford Field on Saturday. "Probably be out 3-4 months.”

Ways, a redshirt sophomore, played in 11 games in 2015 and started two. He made three catches for 40 yards.

While he spent most of 2015 as a backup, he had made tremendous strides during the Wolverines spring practice in Florida. Harbaugh’s timetable puts Ways back on the field prior to spring camp.

Ways tweeted Wednesday morning that his surgery went well.
