Maryland's Big Ten launch festivities will include Big Ten-themed ice cream

If you're wondering what Big Ten ice cream tastes like, we are too. And we'll find out this summer.

As part of its move to the Big Ten, Maryland is planning a two-day launch party that includes the release of Big Ten-themed ice cream.

The school officially joins the Big Ten on July 1 and ramps up the celebration of the move on June 30. Or, maybe given Maryland's longstanding ties with the ACC, the school will be working to convince fans of the transition over those two days. Heck, maybe it's even both?

The festivities even have a name: Think B1G, a play on the Big Ten logo, of course.

The events on June 30 will include a special event in Baltimore and a Big Ten Night at Nationals Park for the game between the Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals. No word on why the Orioles aren't in on the fun; Baltimore hosts the Texas Rangers that night too.

A celebration on the Maryland campus will commence July 1. It'll correspond with the release of the Big Ten ice cream by university dining services. (Will it taste like the water of the great lakes? Slow-paced football? If you eat it, will you automatically dislike the SEC? These are important questions.)

Before the move is official in the summer, Maryland is also hosting alumni events in three east coast cities in the spring.

The school announced the move to the Big Ten in July 2012 and will be joining the conference along with Rutgers. It's been in legal wrangling with the ACC since the switch in an attempt to settle a dispute regarding the school's exit fees to the conference.
