Jack Del Rio’s son Luke turns down high-profile scholarship offers to walk on at Alabama

Alabama is rolling so well in recruiting that the son of a NFL defensive coordinator is turning down scholarship offers from schools like Oklahoma State and Oregon State to walk on with the Crimson Tide.

Luke Del Rio, a quarterback and the son of former NFL player, former Jacksonville Jaguars coach and current Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, announced on Twitter that he will walk on at Alabama.

That's despite previously committing to Oklahoma State, a top program that has gone to seven straight bowl games including the Fiesta Bowl last year.

When Todd Monken, who recruited Del Rio to Oklahoma State, left to become the head coach at Southern Miss, Del Rio apparently started reconsidering his decision. And, he reconsidered his opportunity to have his college education totally paid for.

Del Rio, a senior at Valor Christian High School in Denver who had at least three scholarship offers (Oklahoma State, Oregon State and Colorado State, according to Rivals.com), didn't mind that Alabama had two other quarterbacks coming in with the class of 2013, including Cooper Bateman, the 11th ranked pro-style quarterback in the class according to Rivals.

Del Rio can probably afford to pass on a scholarship, considering his father has a pretty good paying job, but mostly it shows the power of Alabama right now. If good players like Del Rio would rather pay their way to walk on at Alabama rather than take a scholarship offer from a very good football school, it's going to be hard to break up this Crimson Tide dynasty.
