Unified Police of Salt Lake County say the victim was meeting with Hatfield on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, after seeing an online classified ad when Hatfield pulled out a knife and demanded the money. Former Utah cornerback Dominique Hatfield was charged with assault on Monday stemming from a July 5 incident.

According to the probable cause statement obtained KSL.com, Hatfield was at a party when a person at the party asked Hatfield to stop "rolling marijuana into a blunt." The individual did not want the smell of marijuana in the room because there were several Utah athletes at the party and they could be subject to drug tests.

Hatfield took exception to this request and he and "unknown individuals" then grabbed the victim and "began striking him in the face and other parts of his body."

Court documents stated the victim sustained bruising to his eyes, shoulder and back as well as cuts to his face and nose.

Hatfield has been charged with a Class B Misdemeanor for assault.

This incident came just four days after Hatfield was allegedly involved in an unrelated aggravated robbery and theft case. Those charges were dropped, but coach Kyle Whittingham dismissed Hatfield from the team.

Whittingham was asked during Pac-12 media days last week whether Hatfield would be reinstated and Whittingham gave a less-than-reassuring answer.

“No change. He’s dismissed,” Whittingham said. “He’s working through some things and he’s got through part of it, but right now there’s no change.

“I guess you never say never, so I guess there is a possibility. But we’ll just have to see how things unfold.”

Whittingham also noted “other issues” Hatfield was working through, but was not specific. Likely, those issues stemmed from this incident.
