DE Jamal Marcus reportedly transferring from Ohio State

Defensive end Jamal Marcus' next college football snap won't be at Ohio State.

Marcus is reportedly transferring from the program after missing time during spring practices because of academic issues. According to the Columbus Dispatch, it was a mutual decision for him to leave the team and he was not dismissed from it.

Earlier Monday, Ohio State blog Eleven Warriors reported that Marcus and a walk-on Ohio State player had been kicked off the team.

As a member of the class of 2012, Marcus was a three-star outside linebacker according to Rivals. At Ohio State, he switched to defensive end, where he had six tackles and played frequently in the Orange Bowl against Clemson.

He got a ton of playing time in that game because of the suspension of DE Noah Spence. Spence was suspended for three games before the bowl game, which means he's set to miss the first two games of 2014. Marcus was vying to start in his place with Steve Miller and Tyquan Lewis.

At the time of his suspension, Spence's family said he was slipped ecstasy when he was given an open drink at a party and that his season-long suspension was reduced to three games upon appeal.
