Danny Hope is old and doesn’t understand Twitter
While there's been an influx of coaches using Twitter these days, Purdue coach Danny Hope wants nothing to do with it. After Wednesday's practice, Hope was asked about recruits using Twitter and his answer boiled down to the type of answer a 53-year-old coach should give: "I don't get it."
The 2-minute rant drew laughs from the media as Hope explained his relationship with Twitter, how it can affect his players and why he's not a fan.
My favorite part was Hope likening Twitter to keeping a diary, which, Hope explains, grown men do not do.
"Personally, I'm not a big tweet guy. I have a Twitter account, but all I really use my twitter account for is on an occasional basis, to tweet some thing out there, so facts about football. To me, tweeting is a lot like keeping a diary. Back in the day, men didn't keep diaries to share our secrets and post it to the world. So I still don't get the Twitter thing. It doesn't excite me a whole lot.
"I'll be OK the rest of my life without it. It just isn't me. I don't get it. Normally, if I've got some personal business, I keep it to myself. I'm not going to share my opinion that no one cares about.
"I don't get it. Sometimes it can be damaging because things happen and guys, they get emotional and they express their feelings. You know how it is when someone catches you at an emotional point in time. You might say something that you haven't given a lot of thought to and every once in awhile that happens. I just don't get that part of it, you know?
"I don't get it. Maybe I'm too old."
You're never too old, coach Hope. You just need to find a young student assistant to tweet for you like most of the other coaches in college football. There, problem solved.
