Colorado State names Nick Stevens its starting QB

Colorado State has named redshirt sophomore Nick Stevens its starting quarterback, coach Mike Bobo announced Monday.

Stevens was backup to Mountain West Player of the Year Garrett Grayson last season and completed 15 of 25 passes for 136 yards and one touchdown in spot time in 2014.

Stevens had a stellar spring game, completing 27 of 41 passes for 438 yards and four touchdowns, and put forth a similarly strong performance during the Rams first spring scrimmage this past weekend to earn the starting nod over redshirt freshman Coleman Key.

Colorado State averaged 321.62 passing yards per game last season and returns receiver Rashard Higgins, a Biletnikoff Award finalist and the Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year.

Colorado State opens its season on Sept. 5 against Savannah State.
