CFP will provide financial assistance to families of playoff teams

The College Football Playoff announced Tuesday that it would provide financial assistance to families traveling to the semifinals and championship of the College Football Playoff.

The CFP implemented the program last year for the national championship, offering $1,250 per parent or guardian, which came out to roughly $500,000 for the CFP.

This year’s initiative will encompass all three of the CFP games and will provide a $2,500 stipend per student-athlete for up to 100 families from each participating institution.

The NCAA allows the CFP to provide up to $3,000 in travel expenses for families of each competing student-athlete.

“We were pleased to implement this expense-reimbursement program for the first College Football Playoff National Championship and we received warm and sincere positive feedback from the family members,” Bill Hancock, executive director of the CFP, said in a statement. “Extending support to the Playoff Semifinals will be another terrific benefit for folks who will be thrilled to be present to celebrate the accomplishments and experiences of their student-athletes.”

The CFP initiative is similar to the one started by the NCAA last year that offered players’ families travel assistance to the Men’s and Women’s Final Fours in the spring.
