Boston College hires Steve Addazio from Temple

Boston College has traded one mustachioed coach for another.

Boston College athletic director Brad Bates announced Tuesday that it had hired Temple's Steve Addazio to replace Frank Spaziani.

"He is a proven winner with an extensive history of success as an assistant and head coach that includes two national championships," Bates said in a statement released by the school. "Coach Addazio genuinely cares about his students and will facilitate their development in meaningful ways to create a family culture. He has a passion that is contagious and an energy that will motivate those fortunate to meet him."

Addazio was 13-11 in his two seasons with Temple, including a 4-7 record this season as the Owls made a rocky transition from the Mid-American Conference to the Big East.

Prior to Temple, Addazio was the offensive coordinator for six seasons at Florida under Urban Meyer.

Boston College will be a different undertaking for Addazio as the Eagles are coming off a 2-10 season and definitely in rebuilding mode. Even when Addazio took over at Temple, he inherited a strong team and program left by former coach Al Golden. So this will be a challenge. But Addizio will have a little advantage because he already knows how to recruit the area and he's an enthusiastic and energetic coach that is appealing to players.

And Bates knows a little bit about rebuilding a program. He was at Miami-Ohio during the bad years and the good years, so he might be more apt to give Addazio the time he needs to get the Boston College program moving in the right direction.
