Auburn DB Mackenro Alexander said his twin brother thinks Florida State is the nation’s best team
While Auburn freshman defensive back Mackenro Alexander is concentrating on preparation for Monday’s national championship, part of his attention was on the Orange Bowl on Friday.
Alexander’s twin brother, Mackensie, is a cornerback at Clemson, and Alexander wanted to support him even though he wasn’t playing in the game because of an injury.
“It was interesting. I’ve got a lot of guys that I played against at Clemson and at Ohio State, so it was really fun to watch,” Alexander said. “It was a great game. But the one guy that didn’t get to play that I wanted to play so badly was my brother. He went through his injury, but he’s getting better now.”
Mackensie Alexander, who was considered the top prospect in last year’s Clemson recruiting class, was forced to redshirt following a groin injury he suffered during fall camp that required surgery.
Mackensie Alexander missed Clemson’s 51-14 loss to Florida State earlier in the year, but had nothing but praise for the Seminoles when he was talking to his brother about the upcoming BCS National Championship matchup.
“He’s bought into the hype like everybody else has,” Mackenro Alexander said. “I’ll give them their props. We’ll see how good they are. We haven’t played them yet, but they’re a good team though.”
Despite the twins supporting each other’s collegiate careers, Mackenro Alexander said his brother would not be in attendance in Pasadena on Monday.
“He’s staying home,” Mackenro said. “But he’ll watch it on TV.”
