Aaron Rodgers lashes out at Cal over Jeff Tedford’s firing

Jeff Tedford's firing has not sat well with a lot of former Cal players, least of all current Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers, who was a junior college transfer and ended up being a first-round draft pick, lashed out on his weekly radio show Tuesday, chastising those involved in pushing Tedford out.

"It's a terrible, terrible decision," Rodgers told 540 ESPN in Wisconsin. "And it's disrespectful too."

Rodgers said the university ousted Tedford before he had a chance to use the $321 million stadium and facility renovations for a recruiting advantage. Those facilities were possible because Tedford dug the Cal program out of the doldrums and made it an attractive product in which boosters and the university wanted to invest.

"Now, you get some facilities in there, you get a new stadium, you get an awesome new top deck over there that can overlook the [San Francisco] Bay, you get a 100-yard weight room," Rodgers said. "You have some competitive facilities now where you can really recruit some kids. And what do they do? They fire him.

"The winningest coach in history. It's just a shame, because when you promise a guy the stuff that they promised him and he fulfills everything you ask him to do on the field, regardless of the injuries they had this year, to always continue to prepare those guys like I know he did, and then not give him the chance to recruit to that facilities is a shame."

Tedford left Cal with an 82-57 record, but the Bears finished a dismal 3-9 this season.
