Texas overcomes 22-point deficit in win fueled by Oklahoma disrespect and clutch Myck Kabongo

The Dagger

Myck Kabongo was out of options and forced to throw a prayer at the rim off balance with one hand in the final seconds of regulation Wednesday and somehow the ball found nylon.

Kabongo's improbable game-tying shot for Texas sent the game to overtime where the Longhorns completed a dramatic and triumphant comeback victory 92-86 over rival Oklahoma after trailing by 22 points with just under 8 minutes remaining.

Texas rallied in those 8 minutes after watching Oklahoma's Amath M'Baye flash a "Hook'em Horns down" hand sign following an dunk that gave the Sooners that 22-point advantage. It was an obvious show of disrespect and M'Baye could easily have been whistled for taunting. He was chastised by coach Lon Kruger immediately after the play, though it's unclear what the Oklahoma coach said to M'Baye.

Regardless, Texas snatched the momentum and suddenly began playing with purpose and eventually produced the largest comeback in coach Rick Barnes' 15 seasons as coach.

Kabongo scored a career best 31 points with 28 of them coming in the second half and overtime.

It's too bad Texas missed out on the services of Kabongo for most of this season due to a NCAA imposed suspension, the Longhorns seem like they could have been a much better team with him, especially when he plays like he did Wednesday.
