Roosevelt Bouie's jersey retirement at Syracuse marred by misspelling of his name
It wasn't a banner day at Syracuse on Saturday.
Not only did the Orange lose their 10th game of the season 65-61 to Pittsburgh, a halftime tribute to two former Syracuse greats was marred by misspelling Roosevelt Bouie's name on a framed jersey given to him during the ceremony. The name on the jersey Bouie was given said Bowie. The jersey given to Louis Orr was spelled correctly. They played together at Syracuse in the late 1970s.
Judging by the sense of humor Bouie displayed in this story written before his jersey retirement ceremony, we're betting he took the error in stride.
It should be noted the the two players' jerseys hanging from the rafters at the Carrier Dome did have the correct spellings.
While it was an embarrassing mistake - Hey, we've all been there - Syracuse certainly isn't alone here. Other schools and programs have suffered through similar mistakes.
We've certainly made our share of mistakes over thousands of blog posts as well. Here is one example. Check out the names of the teams in the third paragraph.
Syracuse Post-Standard writer Brent Axe tweeted about the mistake and most of the reactions found some humor in the error instead of overreacting.
