Breakfast Buffet: Pittsburgh hands Georgetown its worst home loss since 1971

1. Since Pittsburgh had lost its first two Big East games and had dealt with comparisons all week to last year's team that crumbled in league play, Georgetown should have been prepared for the Panthers' best effort on Tuesday night. Alas, the Hoyas weren't ready for the onslaught that awaited them, and they fell 73-45, their worst home loss since a 40-point drubbing at the hands of St. John's in 1971. Georgetown is now 0-2 in Big East play for the first time under John Thompson III and has lost six of eight to Pitt at home.

2. In addition to the destruction of traditional rivalries, conference realignment has also sparked some new hostilities among fan bases. Exhibit A: This "Traitors and Liars Will Not Be Missed" banner Georgetown fans held up during the Pitt game Tuesday night. The sign was meant to be a jab at the way the Panthers left the Big East for the ACC, though Panthers fans will be quick to note that Georgetown orchestrated the departure of the Catholic 7 last month, driving the final stake into the Big East's heart.

3. You knew the story of how Luke Martinez broke a finger in his right hand was either going to be embarrassing or going to involve a legal matter when Wyoming refused to release the details last week. Sure enough, the Casper Tribune reports Martinez sustained the injury during a brawl at a bar in downtown Laramie on Dec. 30. Martinez, Wyoming's second-leading scorer, is out indefinitely as a result of the injury.

4. Sad news out of Stillwater on Tuesday afternoon as Patsy Sutton, wife of legendary Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton, died at age 76. She had been hospitalized since Dec. 28 after suffering a stroke. "The Sutton family would like to thank everyone for the prayers and thoughts that have surrounded and been given to us," Steve Sutton, Patsy’s oldest son, said in statement released Tuesday.

5. Conference season must have begun because SI.com's Andy Glockner has released his first 'Bracket Watch' and 'Bubble Watch' of the 2012-2013 season. A sure sign the bubble will once again be filled with some teams who have done little to prove they're worthy of an NCAA bid? Right now, Oklahoma, Arizona State, Iowa State and Tennessee have places in Glockner's field of 68.

Kentucky's newly renovated locker rooms at Rupp Arena aren't as absurdly plush as the on-campus dorm where the basketball team lives, but it's definitely a huge upgrade over the previous set-up. The way pieces of the 2012 Final Four floor are included throughout the renovations is particularly inspired.

"Xavier Thames, Xavier Thames and Xavier Thames." -- San Diego State coach Steve Fisher on which banged-up players concern him most entering Wednesday night's Mountain West opener at Fresno State. Thames, the Aztecs' starting point guard and best perimeter defender, tweaked his lower back in practice last week and left early in the second half against Cal State Bakersfield when he felt a twinge.
