Shane Battier sings ‘The Love Boat’ theme to inspire charitable giving (VIDEO)

If you thought Shane Battier had fallen out of love with karaoke, then friend, in the words of the super-funny Paul F. Tompkins, you need to go back to thinking school. The no-stats All-Star's been into rocking the mic for eons, and started using his passion for song to help others back in 2010 while a member of the Houston Rockets, raising money to help underprivileged area youth pay for the cost of higher education through his Take Charge Foundation.

Battier continued his off-key tradition last year after joining the Miami Heat, hosting a "Battioke" event that featured Heat teammates and executives trying their hand at crooning ... and, in the case of team president Pat Riley, failing. Now, to drum up excitement for this year's edition of South Beach Battioke, the former Duke standout and noted "Jeopardy!" enthusiast donned his captain's hat in search of a love that's exciting and new:

I'm not sure how many things are more Shane Battier than choosing the theme song to a TV show that's been off the air for 26 years for a goof, but hey, it plays. Well met, Mr. Battier; you've done Jack Jones and Dionne Warwick proud.

This year's singstravaganza will take place on Jan. 21; while the rest of the NBA's players will be traveling to and from their teams' games, we can only hope that South Beach Battioke will feature pre-taped appearances by such singing stars as Kyrie Irving, Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitzki and the entire 2011-12 Minnesota Timberwolves.

Even if they don't, though, it'll probably still be OK as long Battier can resist the urge to let his Parrothead flag fly. Charity can only go so far, man.
