You guys, Andrew Bynum cut his hair

It happened at least a week ago, but Monday's Cleveland Cavaliers Media Day session offered the big reveal: After a year of follicular adventure that seemed poised to continue in his new home, Cavs center Andrew Bynum has apparently decided to return to the closer-trimmed hairstyles of his days with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Whether the risk-reward poster child switched things up to avoid cramping new frontcourt partner Anderson Varejao's style as the team's resident uniquely coiffed big man, because he wanted to leave behind any bad mojo associated with a disastrous 2012-13 turn with the Philadelphia 76ers, or for some other reason entirely remains to be seen. All we know for sure is that, as we head into the 2013-14 season, a 'do I once described as evoking "a meeting at which the Rev. Al Sharpton, U.S. Rep. Charles Rangeland Moe Howard listen to Earth, Wind & Fire" is no more. On the freak-flag-flying front, it's all over now, Baby Blue. (Not to be confused with "Baby Blue," which has been getting a fair bit of play since Sunday night, and that is a link you should not click unless you're up-to-date on "Breaking Bad.")

So, if you're keeping score at home: Short hair in L.A., plays 60 of 66 games in the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season, earns first All-Star berth. Long hair in Philadelphia, doesn't suit up at all, infuriates fan base and helps bring about the dismantling of the front office. ... I mean, I know the Cavaliers haven't set a timetable for Bynum's return from the surgeries he underwent on both of his knees back in March, but it seems pretty clear that he'll be back sooner than later and one of the five best offensive centers in the NBA. Ask Sheed and he'll tell you — hair don't lie, either.
