Gilbert Arenas wants a 10-day contract with the Lakers to see Kobe

Only Gilbert Areanas could turn a wonderfully cute and poignant moment into something unsavory and, in a few instances, offensive. The former NBA All-Star can’t seem to help himself, even when attempting to pay tribute to a retiring NBA legend.

Kobe Bryant’s final NBA game will be on April 13 of this year, a home date against a Utah Jazz team that might be fighting to make the playoffs. That contest, obviously, is sold out. Whether the actual game matters represents dead health or a Jazz team’s desperate attempt to make the playoffs for the first time since 2012 isn’t of concern – it’s a legend’s final game. Gilbert, turned off by the asking ticket price, tried to grab tickets by way of a 10-day contract with the Lakers:

The full Instagram post can be found here. We’re not embedding it, because it’s full of offensive nonsense. Shots at those with Down Syndrome and comments about the looks of various Kobe Bryant teammates, in his final year.

With no courtside ducats available, it’s quite clever to ask for a mini-NBA contract in order to act as a reserve guard for the man’s hometown team. A happy novelty watching one of the greatest walk off the court for the final time.

Then Gilbert Arenas has to go and do Gilbert Arenas things.

To some in unaware basketball culture way back when, Gilbert Arenas was interesting a decade ago; at least to those who didn’t know that his “blog” was being ghost-written. In just about every year since he’s revealed himself as someone not to listen to nor follow, doubling-down on those of us that knew better from the outset, and this Instagram post is an example of such. Just an embarrassing amount of missteps that a junior high kid (Arenas is 34) should be admonished for; be it on social media, or in the real world.

Had he pulled this off correctly, it would have been fun to see the Lakers hand Gilbert (who last played in the NBA in 2012) a goofball contract in order to see his one-time combatant up close.

Gilbert Arenas, as he’s done throughout his career, had to go and ruin things. He traded in distasteful burns a seat in front of the retiring legend. Here’s hoping he digs the Instagram likes.
