Game to pay attention: Hornets vs. Spurs

New Orleans at San Antonio

A good spate of interesting games tonight, but I have to admit I usually lean toward the nationally televised contests so as to give the fans (that is to say, 99.98 percent of our readers) that don't have League Pass a chance to see what's what. And what's what should be a pretty solid contest between the Hornets and Spurs.

A shootout, even. Neither team is playing anywhere near the sort of defense that we saw from either outfit back when these two met up in the 2008 Western Conference semis, and without Chris Paul(notes) around, it's safe to say that the Hornets are a clear step behind the step-behind-as-it-is Spurs in the Western Conference.

But both of these outfits can still put up the points, though. At a better rate than the 2008 versions, even. And while I wouldn't be surprised if the long jumpers ran hollow tonight, I do think that there is a good chance we could see a fun game along the lines of San Antonio's Sunday win over the Suns.

Yes, I know the Spurs beat the Hornets on Monday. By 14. In New Orleans. Hang with me.

10 games on beyond this one, comment away, have a charmed weekend.

San Antonio Spurs: 34-24, 91.5 possessions per game (23rd), 109.6 points scored per 100 possessions (eight), 105.1 points allowed per 100 possessions (11th).

New Orleans Hornets: 31-31, 92.5 possessions per game (17th), 106.7 points scored per 100 possessions (14th), 108.5 points allowed per 100 possessions (18th).
