Chris Bosh is free from blood clots, eyeing return to Miami Heat

The best possible news has hit: Chris Bosh is free from any blood clots. Less important but no less warming is his assertion that he hasn’t ruled out playing basketball for the Miami Heat this season.

Bosh, who missed most of the second half of 2014-15 with the condition and hasn’t played since Feb. 9 while seeking out forms of treatment, announced as much on Thursday:

Bosh made the All-Star team this season while averaging 19.1 points and over seven rebounds a game for the 37-27 Heat. The team has rallied to go 8-3 in his absence, but the 31-year old big man remains a significant force on both sides of the ball, and any return would be a major addition for a Miami squad that is currently ranked fourth in the Eastern Conference.

It's important to remember that any return to action would not be Chris Bosh's call. As Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported in February, the Miami Heat front office (including owner Mickey Arison and longtime president Pat Riley) were pressuring their All-Star to err on the side of caution, and sit out the rest of the season. The Heat would receive no salary cap compensation nor on-court help by shelving the big man, as the franchise would only be pushing for the rest out of consideration for the health of one of the league's most likable players.

Whatever the outcome, Chris Bosh's future is of paramount importance. Thursday's news was a step in the right direction.
