UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon talks 'Joe Lauzon Money'

The riotously funny Tommy Toe Hold Shoe (TTHS) usually impersonates MMA personalities to create feel-good spoofs. Recently, however, fighters have gotten in on the joke and guest-starred and voiced their own cartoon characters.

Ronda Rousey did an interview this summer and this week, UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon appeared as himself on TTHS. The subject was “Joe Lauzon Money,” or #JoeLauzonMoney, as TTHS coined the change Lauzon has made from UFC performance bonuses.

Lauzon is perhaps the most exciting fighter in all of the UFC, and last weekend he set two new records. The first was as the UFC performance bonus leader, surpassing Anderson Silva.

Lauzon also passed up his idol BJ Penn as the fighter with the most finishes in lightweight UFC history, with his TKO over Michael Chiesa. You definitely need to check out this full TTHS Lauzon episode.

In it, Lauzon gives a tour of all the things (a mansion, outer space, etc.) that his #JoeLauzonMoney has supposedly allowed him to purchase. “It was a blast,” the fighter tells Cagewriter.

“We had talked about doing something for awhile but we got it done this week, after the last fight. It was a piece of cake. He gave me a script and we went through it. We were probably done in ten minutes. I’ve been a fan of TTHS since he started. As soon as they started selling t-shirts, I bought one.”

Lauzon says he got a huge kick out of TTHS making fun of his Massachusetts accent and impersonating him in videos like this, where he appeared with Chael Sonnen as deans of the Institute for Boring Ass Fighters.

“I loved them!” Lauzon says.

“The guy is just hilarious.” On a more serious note, Lauzon certainly doesn’t have all the #JoeLauzonMoney that TTHS says he does.

For example, “JLau” may not have a mansion, but he and his family do have increasing medical bills to pay for this year, to treat their beautiful new baby boy Joey, who has survived cancer.

Lauzon’s bonus money has certainly helped matters a bit. “It definitely helped,” he said.

“I try to be good with my money and set myself up for the future but it’s a challenge. I have about $1,000 in student loans every month to pay, another $800 in health insurance each month.

“I put money into my gym. Katie was in nursing school so I supported the three of us for awhile. The bonus money has definitely helped. “
