The top five homers of April starring, who else, Alex Rodriguez

The top five homers of April starring, who else, Alex Rodriguez

Enter a world you didn't expect you'd ever see again, where Alex Rodriguez is the home-run king of April.

Yes, as bizarro as it might seem, A-Rod hit the longest home run of April. The almost-40-year-old with two bad hips, coming off a year's suspension. That guy. We'll dig into our usual list of the month's top homers below, but first we have to admit that you could put an asterisk on A-Rod's. (And not the reason you might expect).

The Stew uses ESPN's Hit Tracker Online's home-run data for this post, because it's been the go-to source for years. Now that MLB has launched Statcast, it's measuring everything. And Statcast says that Nelson Cruz's home run from earlier this week actually went further than A-Rod's. There's some obvious disagreement, since Cruz's doesn't rank in the top five on Hit Tracker's list.

For now, we're rolling with Hit Tracker, but we'll keep an eye on these things throughout the season.

TOP FIVE HOMERS OF APRIL

1. ALEX RODRIGUEZ: APRIL 17, 477 FEET
Fitting that A-Rod, baseball's villain, would hit into the Captain Morgan deck at Tropicana Field. Ahoy, Pirate A-Rod.

2. JOSH DONALDSON: APRIL 23, 469 FEET
Yes, Donaldson in the Rogers Centre is going to work out very nicely. Very nicely indeed.

• • •

3. EDWIN ENCARNACION: APRIL 21, 463 FEET
Bust out your invisible parrots, folks, when Big Edwin E is circling the bases.

• • •

4. STEVEN SOUZA JR.: APRIL 14, 463 FEET
The Rays rookie swings a big stick. This came off Blue Jays rookie Daniel Norris. Rookie on rookie dingers, folks.

• • •

5. CARLOS GONZALEZ: APRIL 8, 461 FEET
CarGo goes scoreboard in Milwaukee. Niiiiice.
