The curious case of Giants rookie Andrew Susac's 'first' MLB hit

Great Scott! Andrew Susac, the rookie catcher for the San Francisco Giants has altered the timeline of his rookie season, rewriting both the date of his MLB game and his first hit.

It's going to take a full 1.21 gigawatts to explain this curious case of baseball gone "Back to the Future," so fire up your flux capacitor and let's do this:

The Giants resumed Monday a suspended game against the Colorado Rockies from May 22 that was delayed three months and 10 days because of rain. Susac, who spells Buster Posey behind the plate these days, was still in Triple-A when the game began.

But when he was inserted into the lineup for Monday's continuation, Susac was *technically* making his MLB debut.

The game goes down in the books for May 22, so even though this was Susac's 18th game with the Giants, it was *technically* his first.

If that's not weird enough, Susac singled in the eighth inning of the Giants' 4-2 win, so that's also now *technically* his first MLB hit.

His other first MLB hit happened on July 30, and while he can very well put that ball on his mantel for years to come, the eternal scorebook will tell us that Susac's first hit came May 22, two months before he was called up from Triple-A.

Two other post-May 22 call-ups saw action for the Giants on Monday — Joe Panik and Matt Duffy. It's a good thing neither of them did anything notable in the game, otherwise we imagine Hunter Pence would have started to disappear right there in right field like he was Dave or Linda McFly.

One more weird bit about the Giants' continued game: Tim Hudson started the May 22 game for the Giants and received a no-decision when the game concluded Monday. He also started the regularly schedule game between the Giants and Rockies on Monday and again got a no-decision.

Two no-decisions in one day for one pitcher? Rewriting of rookie timelines? This probably really, really tripped out some people in Colorado.
