Steven Souza Jr. launches monster home run in Rays' win

Steven Souza Jr.'s big game at the plate in Tampa Bay's 3-2 win over Toronto on Tuesday started off with a bang. Souza smashed a 463-foot solo shot to deep center field off Blue Jays left-hander Daniel Norris in the first inning to put the Rays on the board early.

It was an impressive display of power, and especially embarrassing for the pitcher who gave it up.

From the AP:

''He hit it about 700 feet,'' Norris said with some exaggeration.

Well it wasn't quite 700 feet, though we understand why Norris feels that way, but Souza's drive is the longest home run hit this season, according to ESPN's Home Run Tracker. We'll see how long it stays on top.

There were 17 homers last year that bested Souza's bomb. Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton hit five home runs 463-feet or further last season while Mike Trout's 489-foot blast took the No. 1 spot in 2014.

Souza finished the night 3 for 5 and scored the winning run in the eighth, a strong performance for a player that figures to be a big part of Tampa Bay's plans moving forward.

And for the time being, he holds MLB's championship belt for the longest home run. We await a response from Mr. Trout and Mr. Stanton.
